WHY DO WE STAND WHEN WE SING?

"And the Levites... of the children the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high."

2 Chronicles 20:19

WHAT WE DO

"O clap your hands all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph."

Psalms 47:1

WHY DO WE HAVE AUDIBLE PRAISE UNTO GOD?

OUR HISTORY

Unity Church of God was formed in 1998 when 60 people met in an old furniture store building in downtown Jesup. Several weeks later, Pastor George Moxley was called to lead this new congregation. The church family grew steadily over the following months, and one year after the church was founded, they moved into their first permanent facility on Sunset Boulevard. The facility included a 500-seat sanctuary, Sunday School rooms, nursery, and social hall. With the anointed preaching of Pastor Moxley and awesome worship of the United Voices Choir, membership was nearly 200 members.

As the church continued to grow, a gymnasium was built in 2001. The gymnasium included increased Sunday School space, a room for the youth, and a full-sized basketball court that doubles as a banquet facility with a commercial kitchen. Started during this time were Unity’s outreach ministries, The Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. These benevolence ministries continue to provide basic necessities of life to the hurting and needy of our community. Also started was The Unity Performing Arts Academy, offering vocal and musical instrument lessons.

As membership continued to grow, the original sanctuary was busting at the seams, even with two Sunday morning services. In 2004, construction began on a 30,000 square-foot worship center, which included additional education rooms and office space. In 2005, the congregation began holding services in the new 1,000 seat sanctuary, which included state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. With membership nearing 1,000, a balcony was opened in the worship center, bringing the seating capacity of the sanctuary to 1,400. This sanctuary continues to serve Unity and the community in many ways, as worship services, weddings, funerals, civic events, and more are held on a regular basis.

Along the way, Unity has continued to reach out to the community by starting a drug rehab center, a battered women’s shelter, and a Christian day care. Unity also holds an annual Thanksgiving banquet for families who are served through the Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, provides Christmas for children of the incarcerated, and provides services for the needy in many other ways.

Unity Church of God is a multicultural, spirit-filled body of believers who worship Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and follow the lead of Jesus in tending to the hurting and needy in Wayne and surrounding counties.
